Filmmaking for Theatre People
In this media-saturated landscape, no one can afford to limit themselves to one way of telling a story. Whether your ambition is to make feature films or better market your stage work, this class will give you an overview of the tools you need to get started.
Topics are geared towards storytelling professionals who don't want to be limited by only one set of technical skills. I will focus on practical advice and information that will enable you to begin your own projects. We will be covering...
- How Directing for the Screen & Stage are Different
- Rethinking Space
- Tools of the Trade
- What Skillsets Must Be On Your Team
- Post-Production Essentials
- Available Resources
"It was very inspiring to hear in practical terms the advantages and pitfalls of transitioning from stage to film directing, the translations of job for one form to the other." - Stephen Nachamie
This is the class I wish someone had been teaching when I started out. I didn't want to re-learn directing. I wanted to learn to apply the skills I already had to a different medium. I've learned a ton by doing exactly that on three feature films of my own, and that is what I will share with you. You'll walk away with the knowledge of how to transfer your skills from one medium to another and a list of resources that will help you get started.
